I regularly consult with clients who are looking to achieve or maintain youthful looking skin. In this article I share 6 tips that anyone can follow in order to get that fresh faced look.
Feed your skin
Feeding our skin with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables is one of the best ways to look and feel fantastic. Research suggests that a healthy balanced diet of fresh vegetables, fruits, protein and water cannot only slow down the ageing process internally but also our skins ageing process.
Wash your face
Debris, perspiration and make up residue are some prime causes of dull skin and clogged pores which can lead to unnecessary breakouts. Cleaning your face daily is critical for long-term healthy skin. Clean skin also maximises the benefits of your nighttime products.
The number one cause of premature ageing and wrinkles is sun damage. Come rain or shine our skin needs daily protection, even on those rainy overcast days when it may seem pointless the sun can still damage our skin health.
A broad-spectrum sunscreen should be used on your face, neck, décolletage, hands, arms and any other area exposed to the elements.
Moisturise and hydrate
Keeping the skin hydrated and moisturised is essential for all skin types.
Moisturising regularly will keep the skin looking and feeling soft, youthful, elasticated and hydrated. There are various moisturisers for each skin type and it’s important to use the right one for your skin to get the products working the best for you.
Treat your skin to the care it deserves
From the moment we are born we are ageing, but many elements of how we age are up to us.
Prevention is better than cure and so prioritising a good skin care regime with good quality products is one way of targeting and slowing down the ageing process. Those small daily skin habits will accumulate to long-term better skin health.
When it comes to skin care, cheap and cheerful is usually not the answer. We get what we pay for after all.
Choose an effective regime that targets your skin type, concerns and issues.
Have a clear out
Most of us are guilty of hoarding products that promise results but that just don’t work, so instead of saving the products just in case – throw them away!! They don’t work anyway. While you’re at it ditch old skincare and make up products too.
Old and expired products can not only lose their effectiveness with time but worst of all they can grow bacteria and the last thing we want is to contaminate our skin with bad bacteria. The ingredients within your skin care products and make up will be most effective when they’re fresh and in date.
A final tip is to only use products that actually work.
